Sterling Fawcett, founder, visionary and leader has built Sterling Fawcett Big Men's Clothing from the ground up. A job with Eaton's to help support he and his wife, Anne, turned into a career that spanned 41 years. During this time, Sterling, achieved the honor of Top Sales in Moncton, in the province of New Brunswick, the Maritimes and eventually Canada. His talent in sales was strengthened by his ability to make ordinary, everyday people feel extraordinary. His non-pushy, yet helpful style of assisting a customer, kept them coming back again and again. In 1994, Sterling, recognized a need in the men's clothing market. Eaton's, only sold clothes up to a certain size which left many customers unable to successfully find clothing items to meet their need. Sterling, asked for special permission from Eaton's to be able to sell basic clothing items for big and tall men. Seeing this as no threat to their business, he was granted permission to begin operations from his house, along with permission to solicit business from Eaton customers who could not find clothing in the department store. In the basement of the Fawcett home, people began to hear about this "place" where big and tall men could find great quality clothing in those hard to find sizes. One by one, his client list formed, word spread and a growing market (no pun intended) was having a vital need taken care of. Still at Eaton's, Sterling could not have imagined what would happen next. In 1996, Sterling was asked to attend a meeting at the store. At this meeting, Eaton's, offered him a buy-out. Sensing that something was up, he took it without question and went home. Sterling still had his store, but that wasn't enough to replace the income he had with Eaton's. He waited and looked for options and opportunities. In 1998, while reading the classifieds, Sterling stumbled across an ad in the For Sale section. It was not in the right place, which he says is why he probably noticed it, and gave the information about a location for lease on St. George Street. Sterling had a feeling about this little ad and called for Anne. Together they went down and looked into the windows and decided that it was perfect. In September of 1998, Sterling Fawcett Big Men's Clothing, opened at 321-A St. George Street in Moncton. Sterling and Anne Fawcett continued to expand the lines carried at the store and word spread all over Canada about this store in Moncton that offered excellent quality clothing at fair and affordable prices. Finally in 2004, Sterling decided to bring a 50-year career in men's clothing to an end. He was going to close the store for good, which concerned many of his customers who had come to depend on Sterling for all their clothing needs. It was early in 2005 when Kurt Parks, a long time customer of Fawcett Big Men's Clothing, started to consider the possibility of taking over the business. Finally on August 30, 2005 it became official, and Kurt Parks and Linda Bullock (Kurt's mother) took over operations of Fawcett Big Men's Clothing. Kurt and Linda welcome old and new customers to the store as they continue this tradition of excellent quality and value. | ||
